Leitrim County Council has approved a planning application from the HSE for a new 90-bed community nursing unit and hospital in Carrick on Shannon.
It will include a mix of long and short stay care, as well as rehabilitation, convalesence, respite and dementia care.
There will be resident accommodation, dining rooms, kitchenettes, resident areas with family overnight room, a visitors’ room, treatment room and hairdresser’s salon.
A rehabilitation area will include physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
Construction is expected to start next year and be finished in 2022.
