With the Boil Water Notice finally lifted on the Lough Talt Water Supply Scheme in South Sligo, there are now hopes the scheme will eventually be taken off the Environmental Protection Agency’s remedial action list (RAL).
Schemes on the RAL list require certain works to bring them up to required standards.
Now, after a €10m upgrade on the Lough Talt treatment plant, problems in relation to the presence of cryptosporidium will finally be resolved while the levels of THMs are also expected to be drastically reduced.
Anthony Skeffington, regional operations manager with Irish Water, has been telling Ocean FM News about the work that’s been done on the scheme.
