A south Sligo councillor says Irish Water has assured him that discoloured water from an upgraded €10m plant at Lough Talt is safe to drink.
More than 13,000 people in the Tubbercurry area had hoped their water supply problems were over with the operation of the new plant following about three years of boil water notices.
However, householders in the area now say the water from the Lough Talt supply is yellow and brown.
But local Fine Gael Councillor Martin Connolly says Irish Water has told him the water is safe and has passed all tests.
