A Donegal TD has urged the Minister for Justice Helen McEntee and the Department of justice to play their part in the winding down of direct provision.
Independent TD Thomas Pringle, says greater staffing and resources for the Department of Justice will be key to ending the system of direct provision.
Deputy Pringle says there were welcome aspects included recently in White Paper published by Minister Roderic O’Gorman on ending direct provision, however he added that the implementation of these measures would be vital.
Speaking to Ocean FM news, the north west TD says that unless the huge backlog of people waiting for decisions on their application is addressed, there is absolutely no way that the 2024 deadline to end direct provision will be met.
