Funeral vigilance concern for the HSE

The top public health official in the north west is stressing the importance of family and visitor groups maintaining vigilance about social distancing when they gather along the routes of funerals to pay their respects.

It’s as the HSE has concerns about a number of issues in relation to funerals,

They include the risk of spreading infection through hand-shaking, as well as people travelling longer distances to funerals, resulting in the likelihood of greater numbers in attendance, despite the limit being 50.

Dr Anthony Breslin, director of Public Health for HSE North West, says that while gathering along the route of a funeral is a respectful gesture, adhering to social distancing remains important as the fight against Covid continues.
