The winners of this year’s Law Society Justice Media Awards have been announced this afternoon.
The winner for broadcast journalism in the radio and podcast local category section is Niall Delaney, presenter of the North West Today Show.
The award was for a piece that highlighted the barriers faced by same-sex couples and their fight to be officially recognised as parents in the eyes of the State.
This was the announcement at the virtual awards ceremony.
The North West Today piece featured Geraldine Stone and Sarah McDevitt, and their legal representative, barrister Annmarie Whelan.
On the NWT Show, Sarah outlined the couple’s difficulties in registering their child, making them, in effect, single parents in the eyes of the law.
