It’s now likely that First Communions in parts of Sligo, Roscommon, Galway and Westmeath will go ahead despite public health advice.
Government says baptisms, communions and confirmations should not take place at this time.
However baptisms will be allowed from next Thursday once protective measures are put in place.
Bishop of Elphin Kevin Doran says he plans to offer the sacraments to children in the diocese who wish to take part.
