Funding is needed to tackle the growth of Japanese Knotweed and Hogweed.
Sligo Sinn Fein Councillor, Thomas Healy says the council have limited funding to tackle the invasive species and has called on the local authority to write to the Minister of Local Government, Darragh O’Brien, to make a scheme available.
Japanese Knotweed spreads rapidly preventing native plants from growing as well having the ability to grow through concrete potentially causing structurally damage.
While Hogweed produces a sap that causes severe burns to human skin causing blisters to break out.
Councillor Thomas Healy says the situation needs to be addressed before it gets worse.
