It’s emerged that only two convictions have been secured in the north west in 2020 when it comes to Dog fouling.
The figures are contained in a new survey published by the NCBI which is part of it’s ‘clear our paths campaign’ which aims to create a safer and cleaner environment for those that are visually impaired.
There was on conviction i n both Sligo and Donegal and none in Leitrim.
June Tinsley, from the NCBI says 29 of the 31 Local Authorities were surveyed and that very few fines were issued which suggest a lack of enforcement but also indicates the threat of receiving a fine is not a strong enough deterrent to encourage pet owners to pick up after their dogs.
