A Sligo Leitrim TD says the Garda Commissioner will face strong questioning on the widespread cancellation of 999 calls later today.
Drew Harris will appear before the Policing Authority, who ordered an independent review into the controversy.
In July, the interim results of a Garda review of the issue found that between 400 and 500 high-priority crimes, including those of domestic violence, were not investigated by gardaí because 999 calls were inappropriately cancelled. The Policing Authority later said it was very concerned about the issue, and appointed Derek Penman to independently review the issue.
Sinn Féin’s justice spokesperson is the Sligo Leitrim TD Martin Kenny, he says there are many unanswered questions.
