A local TD says there is an ‘irrational focus’ focus on people in pubs being able to spread Covid-19 however, the same is not applied to the likes of sporting events with large attendances.
Sligo/Leitrim Fianna Fail TD, Marc MacSharry says the hospitality sector is being unfairly treated compared to other areas.
He raised his concerns with Minister for Tourism, Catherine Martin during a Joint Oireachtas Committee on Sport and Tourism.
Deputy MacSharry said the hospitality sector, collectively, has the lowest incidences of Covid-19 compared to outbreaks in the home, schools or nursing homes.
Minister Martin admitted the midnight closing time is tough on the night time economy but says she is determined to keep pubs and nightclubs open.
