The Treasure Leitrim movement have welcomed the decision of Sligo County Councillors in objecting to the issuing of the prospecting licence for gold.
spokespersons for Treasure Leitrim, Jamie Murphy has welcomed the move, In a statement to ocean FM news he outlined that this is not just a Leitrim issue and it has the potential to impact on the wider region and further afield.
He says that a precedent needs to set that it should not be accepted that these companies are granted licenses automatically.
He added that it is possible for communities to oppose such applications for licences and win.
