Sligo Rovers suffered a 3-0 defeat to DLR Waves in Saturday’s historic SSE Airtricity Women’s National League fixture at the Showgrounds in front of a crowd of 945.
The attendance was less than 70 short of the all-time women’s League of Ireland attendance.
Rovers showed commendable battling qualities in what was just their second ever LOI fixture.
Goals from Avril Brierley. in the first half, and two goals from the impressive Rachel Doyle in the second, gave DLR Waves a comprehensive win although the match was closer than the full-time scoreline suggests.
Sligo Rovers captain Emma Hansberry recovered from injury to lead the side out on Saturday.
She spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Austin O’Callaghan after the game.
Rovers Donegal duo of Gemma McGuinness and Emma Doherty also took positives from Saturday’s result.
