O’Donnell in action on opening day of World Athletics Championships

North Sligo Athletic Club’s Christopher O’Donnell (pictured) will anchor the Ireland 4 x 400 metres mixed relay quartet when the 2022 World Athletic Championships begin at Harvards Field in Oregon on Friday.

O’Donnell, along with Sophie Becker, John Raftery and Rhasidat Adeleke run in the relay heats on Friday night at 7:45pm Irish time – with the final (if they get through) scheduled for 03:50am on Saturday morning.

O’Donnell and Becker were part of the Ireland quartet which reached the Olympic final in this event in Tokyo last year.

Friday is also a big day for Finn Valley AC’s John Kelly.

Just two weeks after setting a new Irish senior record for the Shot Putt, he’s now representing his country at the World Championships.

The Championships are being held in the United States for the first time – and run from Friday, July 15th, to Sunday, July 24th.

Ireland has sent a team of 21 athletes to Oregon.
