Leitrim county champions criticise AIB’s rural bank cutbacks

Leitrim county champions Ballinamore Sean O’Heslin’s have called on one of the GAA’s primary sponsors, AIB, to reverse its recent cutbacks to rural banking services.

In a lengthy social media post on Wednesday, Ballinamore expressed the club’s unhappiness with AIB, who are one of the primary sponsors of the GAA All-Ireland senior football championship, as well as being the main sponsor of the All-Ireland club football and hurling championships.

From September 30th, Ballinamore’s AIB Branch, the town’s only remaining bank, will no longer offer cash and cheque services at the counter or through machines outside the branch, following AIB’s announcement this week.

The move has attracted strong criticism from the local community and the GAA Club, who’ve called on AIB to reverse its decision.

If it’s not reversed, Ballinamore Sean O’Heslin’s has urged the GAA’s Central Council to drop the financial institution as its main sponsor of the All-Ireland club football and hurling championships.
