Nearly 700 Donegal people on jobseekers for at least a decade

An Independent Donegal TD has expressed his disbelief over unemployment figures for Donegal.

The data shows that at least 700 people from Donegal have been continuously on jobseeker’s allowance for at least 10 years.

New figures show there are over 15,000 people across the county on long term jobseekers since 2012.

Along with Donegal, Cork, Galway, Louth and Wexford all have at least 700 on the payment for at least 10 years.

Donegal Deputy Thomas Pringle says he actually expected the figure to be higher:

Brid O’Brien, from the Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed, says extra support is needed for these people.
