Sligo native Ceola McGowan has won the World Axe Throwing Championships in Canada.
The 32-year-old beat competitors Sweden, Germany, and Estonia to claim the top prize at the end of four days of competition in Nova Scotia.
The World Double Bit Axe Throwing Championships are organised by a group of professional lumberjack athletes in North America.
McGowan was unfamiliar with the sport of axe throwing until 2018, when she tried it with a friend.
She works as an operations technician for an energy supplier, but has won medals at axe-throwing competitions around the world.
She is also a pole dancer and says the skills she learned in this discipline ultimately helped develop her talents as an axe-thrower.
