Leitrim Councillor says lives are being put at risk by ‘failing ambulance service’

A Leitrim councillor has called for ambulances based in Manorhamilton and Carrick-on-Shannon to be exclusively tasked with transporting patients from Leitrim to hospitals such as Sligo University Hospital.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Paddy Farrell says there have been reports of some stoke victims in Leitrim having to wait for ambulances to arrive from as far as way as Drogheda to attend to them.

It’s also feared that some ambulance personnel from outside of the region are not familiar with local roads when it comes to transporting patients to hospitals including Sligo University Hospital.

Cllr Farrell says the ambulance service is failing the people of Leitrim and is urging the local authority to contact the minister for Health Stephen Donnelly in relation to the matter.
