A Sligo councillor says proposals to ban oil and gas boilers from new and existing homes will result in a further over dependence on electricity and will leave households at the mercy of providers that have already increased the cost of energy a number of times this year.
The Government are reported to be considering the moves in order to move away from fossil fuels.
The ban would apply to newly built homes from next year and to installations in existing houses possibly from as early as 2025.
Sligo Drumcliff Councillor Thomas Healy says it’s a badly thought out move that will disproportionately impact rural Ireland.
