Sligo senior league champions Coolera/Strandhill needed a fine score by former county minor star Mark McDaniel to earn a draw with Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in Sunday’s Homeland senior football championship group 2 game at Kent Park.
The sides played out a 0-11 each draw to both remain in the hunt for a play-off place at the end of the group stages.
Drumcliffe/Rosses Point, playing with the aid of a strong breeze, led 0-7 to 0-6 at half-time and might have been further in front.
Coolera/Strandhill, without playing particularly well in the opening half, were never too far way – and the lead changed hands on a couple of occasions in the second-half.
The North Sligo club moved two points clear in the closing stages but last year’s county finalists kept their composure and fired over two late points to level the match.
At Markievicz Park, Coolaney/Mullinabreena collected their first win with a 4-9 to 1-16 victory over St Farnan’s.
The O’Dowd Park club scored four first-half goals and led by 12 points at one stage.
However, Farnan’s gradually worked their way back into the game and cut the deficit to three points in the closing stages, before running out of time.
