Midlands North West MEP says urgent discussions are needed with UK on potential gas rationing

A Midlands North West MEP is calling on the Taoiseach to seek an urgent meeting with British Prime Minister Liz Truss to discuss potential gas rationing this winter.

Ireland gets three quarters of its gas supply via pipelines to the UK while the rest comes from the Corrib facility in Mayo.

Midlands-North-West MEP Colm Markey believes that because we rely so heavily on gas from the UK, the Irish Government needs to engage with the new British PM on the issue.

Mr Markey says it’s vital that these talks take place as soon as possible.
