Patients visiting Sligo University Hospital are being advised to expect significant waiting times in the hospital’s Emergency Department.
The delays are due to a combination of the high number of people attending the emergency department and an increased number of Covid-19 cases has led to the delays.

Sligo University Hospital confirmed the news in a statement which says that the emergency department has been extremely busy of late, with a combined 312 people attending it over the last two days.
Hospital management have acknowledged that the delays are very difficult for the patients and their families, and have apologised for the distress and inconvenience caused.
Covid-19 was also cited as a contributing factor to the long waiting times, with five wards in the hospital currently impacted by outbreaks of the virus.
