McNicholas & Kerrigan make Ireland U21 Euro play-off squad

Sligo Rovers goalkeeper Luke McNicholas and Tubbercurry native Liam Kerrigan have both been named in the Republic of Ireland under-21 soccer squad for next week’s Euro U21 play-off against Israel.

Swinford native McNicholas has become Rovers first-choice keeper since the departure of Ed McGinty to Oxford United earlier this season.

Kerrigan was an integral part of the under-21 side during their group qualifers – and signed for Italian Serie B side Como from UCD during the summer.

Team manager Jim Crawford has also recalled Aaron Connolly to the under-21 squad who, coincidently, is also playing his club football in Italy with Venezia (on loan from Brighton).

The first leg of the play-offs will take place at Tallaght Stadium on Friday, September 23rd (KO 7pm), where more than 7,000 have already secured their seat for the game.

The second leg is scheduled for Bloomfield Stadium, Tel Aviv, Israel on Tuesday, September 27 (KO 7pm Irish time).
