Sligo intermediate glory for St Molaise Gaels

St Molaise Gaels are back in senior championship football in Sligo following Sunday's emphatic 2-18 to 0-9 win over Eastey in the Connacht Gold intermediate football final at a sodden Markievicz Park.

Molaise had lost the past two intermediate finals - but here they made to mistake with a dominant display from start to finish.

The tone was set by former AFL star Luke Towey who netted in the third minute for the game's opening score.

Connacht under-20 star Joe Keaney added a second goal before half-time to help the north Sligo club establish a 2-5 to 0-5 interval lead.

An out-of-sorts Easkey had few answers for Molaise forward power in the second-half as the west Sligo men managed just three second-half scores.

Michael Langan collected the Player of the Match award after the game.

His dad, Jimmy, who manages the team, spoke to Ocean FM Sport's Rian Bailey about the significance of Sunday's win.

Molaise were unable to complete the double on Sunday - as Shamrock Gaels came from three points down to record a 2-13 to 1-10 victory in the junior 'A' final.
