Former Sligo-Leitrim TD says local Fianna Fáil dispute has potential to be damaging

A former Sligo-Leitrim Fianna Fáil TD says the current dispute between Deputy Marc MacSharry and a Sligo Councillor has the potential to be damaging.

Eamon Scanlon was reacting to the news that Deputy MacSharry was not readmitted to the parliamentary party because of a complaint from a Fianna Fáil councillor in Sligo, reported to be Donal Gilroy.

It’s understood the incident arose from an interview on OceanFM with Cllr Gilroy concerning Cath Lab services in Sligo.

When contacted by Ocean FM this morning, Cllr Gilroy said it was an internal party matter which was being dealt with by the party organisation.

Deputy MacSharry says his remarks can’t be seen as bullying – and he’s entitled to due process.

Eamon Scanlon says the matter should have been dealt with in-house by Fianna Fáil and not played out in the media.
