There are genuine fears that smaller restaurants and hotels in the North West will shut if the 9% VAT rate for the hospitality sector isn’t maintained.
Finance Minister Pascal Donohoe is standing firm on a decision to return the VAT rate for hospitality to 13.5% next year.
It currently stands at 9% and will continue until February 28, 2023.
Local Fianna Fáil Cllr Tom MacSharry says the Government should be supporting the sector in every way possible and is warning that changing the VAT would be detrimental for many local businesses:
