Gary Boylan suffers cruciate ligament injury

Just one week after rejoining Sligo Rovers from Finn Harps, defender Gary Boylan has suffered a cruciate ligament injury in pre-season training.

The Belmullet native, who’s 26, came through the Rovers academy in the early part of his career and made more than 100 appearances for the club.

He left the Showgrounds in 2019 and had spells with Cork City, Finn Harps and the Mayo gaelic football team.

He was re-signed by Rovers manager John Russell at the start of the year.

While injury hads hampered his career in recent seasons, it was felt the 26-year old still had much to offer.

However, this latest cruciate ligament setback is likely to keep him out of action for most of the 2023 season.
