A number of minor accidents reported in Sligo after overnight frost

Gardaí in Sligo are warning motorists to proceed with extreme caution on local roads this morning.

A number of minor accidents have already been reported across the local region.

The Dual Carriageway is reported to be very dangerous with extreme care needed at the Ballisodare turnoff.

Gardai says the road from Ballisodare to Collooney is extremely icy and motorists have been advised to take extreme care while travelling on this route.

The cold spell is taking hold all over the country this morning with a yellow ice warning in place nationwide.

There'll be icy stretches until midday causing hazardous driving conditions. While a winter weather advisory will continue for the coming days, bringing some hail, sleet, snow and freezing fog.
