A proposal to install CCTV at Sligo cemetery has been met with contrasting views at the latest sitting of Sligo County Council.
The motion was brought forward by Fianna Fáil Councillor Tom MacSharry who said that ongoing issues of vandalism and thefts in the cemetery present a very real need for the measure.
The Council says that there are no current plans for cameras to be installed there and that there is a law in place which does not permit the move.
Meanwhile, other Councillors believe that any such plan would first need to be discussed with the local community while others have highlighted the potential intrusive element to the measure.
