Sligo senior gaelic footballers suffered a 2-11 to 0-11 defeat to promotion hopefuls Laois in Sunday’s opening round of the Allianz Football League Division 4 at Markievicz Park.
Laois’ ability to cut through the Sligo defence at key moments in the game saw Paul Kingston find the home side’s net twice, once in each half.
Sligo did close the gap to two points in third quarter of the game but, overall, they found it difficult to create meaningful goal chances.
At the other end, Sligo keeper Daniel Lyon made two fine saves to deny Laois more goals.
Sean Carrabine was Sligo’s top scorer on the day with 0-4 but, overall, the home side were below par.
