Donegal have made a winning start to their Allianz Hurling League Division 2B campaign following Saturday’s 1-16 to 0-15 victory over Sligo in a highly entertaining contest at O’Donnell Park in Letterkenny.
Mickey McCann’s side led by four points at half-time (1-9 to 0-8), but Sligo pushed their opponents hard all the way and will rue the number of wides they had – 16 in total.
Ruairi Campbell netted Donegal’s goal towards the end of the first half which, in the end, proved to be a critical score.
Elsewhere, in Division 3B, Leitrim hurlers beat Warrickshire by 1-21 to 3-6 in their opening game of Division 3B in Birmingham.
Olcan Conway’s side led by a point at half-time, 1-7 to 2-3, thanks to Brendan Delaney’s first-half goal – but they outscored their opponents by 14 scores to four in the second 35 minutes to run out convincing winners.
