Leitrim councillor renews calls for transport police due to rise in anti-social behaviour on public transport



An increase in the number of anti-social behaviour incidents on trains has led to renewed calls for the introduction of transport police by a Leitrim councillor.

 

Drumkeerin based Councillor Padraig Fallon says recent figures from Irish Rail that shows there was a 60 per cent increase in anti-social behaviour complaints in 2022

 

Complaints of racism, verbal sexual harassment, assaults and drug-taking on trains were registered.

 

There was a 60 per cent increase in anti-social behaviour complaints in 2022, compared to the previous year.

 

Incidents of anti-social behaviour have also been reported on the Sligo to Dublin service.
