Sligo’s Mona McSharry swam to gold for the University of Tennessee (UT) on Friday night at the Southeastern Conference Swimming Championships (SEC) in Texas.
McSharry won the women’s 100 metres breaststroke – her Olympic final event – in a new championship-record time of 57.25 secs.
This is the 12th SEC medal of her collegiate career in the US and she becomes the first Tennessee swimmer to win back-to-back SEC titles in the 100m breaststroke.
Later on Friday, the Grange woman helped the UT 4 x 400m individual medley team to a silver medal.
McSharry’s successes followed on from a silver medal in the women’s 50m freestyle final earlier in the week.
