Sligo’s light welterweight boxer Dean Clancy has won his opening bout at this year’s Strandja international tournament in Bulgaria.
The prestigious event, which is now into its 74th, attracts some of Europe’s leading amateur boxers, and in based in the city of Sofia.
Clancy, who trains out of the Sean McDermott gym in Manorhamilton beat a Bulgarian opponent in his opening bout in the 63.5kg division on Tuesday.
Ireland has a team of 19 boxers (10 women and nine men) competing in Sofia this week.
