Non-commissioned army officer fined over incident in Finner Camp

A senior non-commissioned army officer has been fined €5,000 over his conduct during a social event in the Officers Mess in Finner camp in Donegal.

The sentence was imposed on Company Sergeant Uel Fisher and includes forfeiture of one year’s seniority, from the rank of Company Sergeant following the incident which took place in 2017.

The Irish Times are reporting that during the function Sergeant Fisher threatened Corporal Owen McLoughlin during a pre-Christmas party in the barracks.

CS Fisher is attached to the 28th Infantry Battalion.

He originally pleaded not guilty to five offences including a threat to kill contrary to section 5 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

His trial was halted on its second day after he changed his plea and he was re-arraigned on the three section 168 charges, which he admitted.

The Director of Military Prosecutions (DMP) agreed to drop the charge of threatening to kill and another one of drunkenness.
