Donegal’s Cian Harkin leads West of Ireland

Letterkenny Golf Club’s Cian Harkin leads the Connolly’s Audi Centenary West of Ireland Championship following Saturday’s second round at Co Sligo Golf Club.

Harkin produced an excellent three-under-par 68 in challenging weather conditions to lead the field by one going into Sunday’s third round of strokeplay.

Saturday’s field was cut from 126 starters to 90 players who’ll go on to play Sunday’s third round before the field is whittled down to the best 16 scorers who’ll contest the matchplay stages on Monday.

Two County Sligo golfers, Ruairi O’Connor and 2017 winner Barry Anderson are both well placed on four-over-par.

However, defending champion Alan Fahy (Bray) struggled and missed the Saturday cut after shooting an 84.

Local star TJ Ford lost two golf balls when taking a nine on the signature 17th hole but still managed to make Sunday’s play on +14.
