A Leitrim Councillor has called for every action to be taken to avoid a summer of disruption after the Fórsa Members of the Local authorities voted in favour of industrial action up to and including strike action.
The union, which represents more than 10,000 local government and services workers, has accused local authority management of refusing to establish a job evaluation scheme for staff.
They say many local authority workers continue to take on extra work given to them during the economic crisis.
If strike action were to take place, it could affect housing, roads and water sections in local authorities across the counties of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.
