North West beaches surpass EPA quality expectations



The Environmental Protection Agency says 97 per cent of designated bathing waters met or exceeded the minimum standard.

A total of 117 bathing sites had excellent water quality, two more than last year.

The report, in the main, brought positive tidings for the north west beaches that were surveyed.

In Sligo, Rosses Point, Dunmoran Strand, Enniscrone, Mullaghmore and Streedagh all were found to have found excellent water quality during bathing season which runs from May 22nd to September 15th.

When it comes to Annual Water Quality, Enniscrone was classed as ‘Good’ and Mullaghmore ‘Sufficient’.

The other three Sligo beaches was deemed to have excellent water quality.

In Donegal there were 6 local beaches mentioned in the report.

Bundoran, Fintra, Magherarorty, Murvagh, Narvin and Rossnowlagh were all found to be ‘excellent’ when it came to the water quality during bathing season and for annual water quality.
