Two out of five fire stations in Leitrim not operational at any one time due to industrial action

It’s been confirmed that two out of five fire stations in Leitrim will not be operational at any one time from today due to industrial action.

Fire services in Leitrim and the wider North West area are impacted  due to industrial action by SIPTU retained firefighters.

Leitrim County Council have been advised by workers of their intention to escalate their industrial action nationwide with effect from today.

Leitrim County Council is continuing to engage with local Retained Fire Fighters to maintain a response to emergency calls during the industrial action which started on June 6th.

Whilst the industrial action has resulted in a change in fire service communications procedures, emergency calls have been responded to.

The second phase of the industrial action which began today will result in 50% of the Fire Stations being ‘off the run’ each day.

In Leitrim this means that two out of five fire stations will not be operational in the county at any one time.

Emergency response will be provided by the nearest available stations.

Leitrim County Council wishes to assure the public that every effort is being made to reduce the risk to communities during the dispute and an effective contingency plan is in place to ensure public safety.

The Council will keep members of the public informed.

All households and businesses should ensure they have working smoke alarms and should continue to use 999 or 112 calls in the case of an emergency.
