The Association of Irish Racecourses has confirmed 26 Irish Racecourses have approved a new media rights deal for the sport in Ireland.
Last month, just 21 courses had signed up to the deal.
Sligo were one of five racecourses who rejected the broadcast offer by Sports Information Services (SIS) and Racecourse Media Group (RMG) on the grounds that it was unfair to smaller racecourses – and that Horse Racing Ireland was taking too much money for itself.
Roscommon, Kilbeggan, Limerick and Thurles were the other dissenting courses.
However, after lengthy negotiation, the five ‘breakaway’ group of five have now accepted the revised agreement which, it’s understood, will include a proposed memorandum of understanding for racecourses during future media deal negotiations.
The new deal is set to begin on January 1st, 2024 – so does not affect the remaining 2023 race meetings at Cleveragh.
The next Sligo Races meeting at Sligo is Family Day on Sunday, July 9th.
