There are genuine fears that the Glenboy / Glenfarne group water scheme will cease to exist if Uisce Eireann don’t take charge of it.
440 premises are currently being serviced by the scheme and there’s concern if it’s not taken over, the taps in people’s homes could run dry in a worst case scenario.
In its latest update, the utility says that there are no current plans to take over the scheme due to a lack of resources.
Manorhamilton Municipal District Councillor Sean McDermott says it’s a long running issue and if action isn’t taken, there’s huge concern that the scheme will ultimately collapse:
