Thousands to take part in mica case in Donegal

Defective Blocks Ireland is to file a formal complaint to the European Commission against the Irish State.

The Litigation is being funded by Donegal businessman Adrian Sheridan, who has contributed more than €2m on an not-for-profit basis.

It’s expected that the number of plaintiffs is likely to grow to more than 2,500 in the weeks ahead.

David Coleman of Coleman Legal, the solicitor handling the case, expects a number of lead cases to be heard next year and that the outcomes of these cases will guide the advice then given to the other plaintiffs.

The multiparty case will argue that the scheme, put in place by the State, is insufficient to address the scale of the problem and is too limited in the type of building that can qualify.
