Sligo boxer Dean Clancy will try to secure qualification today for next Summer’s Olympic Games in Paris, when he takes on Italy’s Gianluigi Malanga in a light-welterweight quarter-final at the European Games in Poland.
The four semi-finalists will earn qualification for the Paris games next year.
Clancy, who trains out the Sean McDermott boxing gym in Mannorhamilton, is one of nine Ireland boxers contesting quarter-finals at the European Games this week.
Olympic gold medallist in Tokyo, Kellie Harrington, is also trying to secure her plane ticket to Paris today.
Clancy is due in the ring at 1:45pm Irish time.
