Gardai launch nationwide hunt for ‘ram raid’ gang

A nationwide Garda alert has been issued over an organised crime gang who are suspected of ram-raiding and forcing entry into stores in Roscommon and six other counties.

The Irish Independent reports that senior sources say the net is closing in on the group who are suspected of stealing goods worth tens of thousands of euro and causing similar amounts worth of criminal damage in their crime spree.

It is reported that there have been at least eight organised robberies linked to the gang in recent weeks in counties Roscommon, Westmeath, Wexford, Kildare, Meath, Galway and Dublin.

In the early hours of Monday morning last, three men are believed to have reversed a vehicle into the front of the Three Store in Roscommon Town. Then subsequently made off with a number of phones.

The paper reports that at least six people are involved in the gang, and a regional co-ordinated investigation is underway.
