Concern over planned project for Diamond in Donegal Town

Serious concern has been raised that the Public Realm Space planned for the Diamond in Donegal Town may be shelved indefinitely.

The scheme intends to transform and restore the Diamond and while it had been anticipated that the project would get underway in September, there’s concern it may not.

Local Sinn Fein Cllr Noel Jordan says the community of Donegal Town had been looking forward to this project being finished and will be left disappointed:

However, in a statement issued today, Donegal County Council has clarified that this project is still ongoing and has not been paused.

While the project costs are higher than initially anticipated, similar to all capital projects in recent months, Donegal County Council is working on both a value engineering exercise and in sourcing additional funding to deliver this project.

The tender process is still ongoing in this regard.  Once finalized, it is envisaged that the project will be delivered on time and according to the schedule set out, which will be to commence works in September 2023 with a view to completing the work by December 2023.
