Climate camp in Leitrim to highlight environmental concerns

A Leitrim based environmentalist says the staging of the annual Slí Eile climate camp in Leitrim this year will afford the North West region to air concerns over many environmental issues.

It’s understood that raising awareness to the possibility of gold mining in parts of Leitrim, the construction of super wind Turbines and ongoing forestry concerns will be key local issues that various north west community activists will be eager to highlight.

The annual Climate Camp is being ran in Manorhamilton between August 9th and 13th.  The event will be operated land belonging to local farmer James Gilmartin.

It follows a very successful staging of the event in Kerry last year where a number of local issues of concern such as the LNG importation of fracked gas was discussed in great detail.

A number of local groups such as ‘Love Leitrim’, ‘Save Leitrim’ ‘Treasure Leitrim’ are involved in helping to stage this years event in Manorhamilton.

Jamie Murphy who is a member of the Treasurer Leitrim Group, he  says it’s a guilt edge opportunity to turn the national spot light on many important local issues.
