Rovers see off Cork City with convincing win

Sligo Rovers got back to winning ways on Saturday night with a 3-0 win against struggling Cork City.

Max Mata opened the scoring on 30 minutes, powering home a header to score his 11th goal of the season to put him level with Chris Forrester of St Patrick’s Athletic at the top of the goalscoring charts.

Johan Brannefalk doubled the lead in the 53rd minute, scoring directly from a corner.

Stefan Radosavljevic sealed all three points, capitalising on an error from City goalkeeper Jimmy Corcoran to score his second goal in three games.

The result sees Rovers leapfrog Drogheda United into 7th, reducing the gap on Shelbourne to six points.

The evening was somewhat marred, however, by the news of the tragic passing of Ciaran Keating, father of Cork striker Ruairi, following a car accident.
