Sligo’s Gearóid McDaid wins silver medal at European Surfing Championships

Sligo pro surfer Gearóid McDaid has won a silver medal for Ireland in the men’s Grand Final at the European Surfing Championships (Eurosurf 2023) in Portugal.

He won his repechage final on Thursday morning to secure his place in the final four – and in the Grand Final, finished runner-up to Portugal’s Guilherme Ribeiro.

It was super display from the Calry native, who had an opportunity to clinch gold in the closing moments of the grand final – but the wave swell in the closing stages wasn’t sufficient to give him a chance of getting the score he needed for top spot.
