Department not to issue contract to house refugees at Sligo apartment complexes



A contract, which was to be awarded to two apartment complexes in Sligo to house Ukrainian refugees, will now not be issued.

 

Management at Milligan Court and Benbulben Court in the town announced earlier in the summer they were no longer provide student accommodation, leaving around 500 students scrambling for somewhere to live.

 

It had been reported that the complexes were to be used for Ukrainian refugees instead however it’s been confirmed this evening that the Department of Children will not issue the contract to the developer allowing them to do so, paving the way for the accommodation to reopen for students.

 

Fine Gael Deputy Frank Feighan says this issue has caused a lot of stress for the ATU, parents and students and hopes that this development will see the matter resolved:
