Defending county champions St Mary’s, Mohill and Leitrim Gaels were among the winners on the opening weekend of the Connacht Gold senior club football championship in Leitrim.
Saturday’s round 1 games saw also saw Glencar/Manorhamilton earn a draw away to Aughawillan.
Holders St Mary’s eased to a 1-13 to 0-5 victory over Gortletteragh – while in Glencar, Keith Beirne scored 0-13 as last year’s beaten finalists Mohill scored a 0-18 to 0-9 success over Dromahair.
The comeback of the evening came from Leitrim Gaels, where were trailed new Division 1 league champions Fenagh/St Caillin’s by 0-9 to 0-2 at one stage in the second half before storming back to win by one, on a final scoreline of 1-7 to 0-9.
Fenagh will rue the number of wides they had in this game when seemingly in a position of control.
In Corlough, Ballinamore Seán O’Heslin’s have few problems in overcoming neighbours Aughnasheelin by 4-11 to 0-4.
The 10 senior clubs in Leitrim play four round-robin games before the group standings determine the knockout places.
The top two clubs will qualify directly for county semi-finals.
The next four teams (3rd to 6th) will contest two quarter-finals – with the bottom four clubs going into the relegation play-offs.
One club will be relegated to the intermediate championship next season.
